Toronto, ON – March 24, 2021 – UL, the global safety science leader, today announced that UgoWork™, an energy solutions provider specialized in the material handling industry, is the first company in Canada to achieve both U.S. and Canadian certifications of UL 2580, the Standard for Batteries for Use In Electric Vehicles, for its W207 lithium-ion battery for heavy-duty class III industrial trucks. Certification of the UgoWork W207 battery included multiple system level tests, including those focused on fire propagation as well as its electrical and mechanical systems.
UL 2580 addresses the safety of the battery system, charging system, electric motors and other electrical parts. The UL 2580 certification program includes testing and certification to UL 991, the Standard for Tests for Safety-Related Controls Employing Solid-State Devices and UL 1998, the Standard for Software in Programmable Components, relating to UgoWork’s proprietary battery management system. It includes:
- Fire propagation testing
- Drop testing
- Crush testing
- Vibration and shock testing
“The UL 2580 standard has been achieved in a very streamlined process, a clear demonstration of the craftsmanship excellence, team commitment and the safety level of UgoWork technologies,” said Philippe Beauchamp, president and CEO of UgoWork. “Our R&D team went a step further and conducted several abuse tests far more intense than the UL requirements. The robustness of our energy solution reflects our philosophy towards quality. As clients are seeking bulletproof solutions, we position ourselves as solid partners in this energy transition for the Material Handling Industry."
“We are thrilled about the accomplishment that UgoWork has achieved to demonstrate their products are safe and compliant with Canadian regulatory requirements,” said Joseph Hosey, vice president and general manager of UL in Canada. “UL understands the challenges that the EV battery manufacturers face and is proud to support rapid product innovations and business growth in the ever-evolving renewables segment.
